Wireless Week: Waiting for Droid X in Hot, Hot July

If you're on the East Coast like us, chances are you could use a cold beverage. Or a nice, long, swimming-pool dip. In other words, an escape from the 100-degree heat.

What about a new phone?

Say yes to the Droid X, which hits Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless stores next week. This baby's got a 4.3-inch-wide screen, an 8-meg camera with dual-LED flash, 3G mobile hotspot connectivity and an HDMI output.

And apparently, it doesn't have the reception issues associated with the iPhone (News - Alert) 4.

Now, that's hot.

In other news, IPWireless and Altair Semiconductor announced a partnership to develop a line of multi-band LTE (News - Alert) modem products that will support key frequency bands. They say that, in doing this, they will create the wireless industry's first multi-band, multi-mode LTE modem.

While that's hot news, we're a little concerned Dell (News - Alert) is getting colder - not warmer - when it comes to media tablet plans.

Dubbed the Streak, Dell's new tablet is expected to arrive in the United States this summer. Here we are past the 4th - which many of us consider the middle of the season - and we have yet to see the debut.

Britain saw the device arrive last month and while AT&T (News - Alert) is expected to make it available to Americans for $500, the device remains unseen.

We promise you we're hot on Streak's trail. Stay tuned!

But if you're ready to have a meltdown, you should probably take the party inside.

DISH Network is broadcasting Sunday's solar eclipse for U.S. folks who want to see it happen (it won't be visible if you're in the United States to the naked eye. Sorry!). Starting at 3 p.m. ET, DISH Network customers can tune to Ch. 287 and follow the moon as it takes its path between Earth and the Sun.

Though watching TV will take us indoors, we do admit it's quite a nice way to cool off a hot, busy weekend.
