Availability of NTP Client IP License for picoChip's picoXcell SoCs Announced by Brilliant Telecommunications
Brilliant’s (News - Alert) NTP client synchronization technology is now available with picoChip’s picoXcell PC3xx series systems-on-chip or SoCs. Brilliant Telecommunications, Inc. has made an announcement in this regard. Cost and performance for the growing femtocell market is addressed by this licensed NTP synchronization solution.
picoChip's (News - Alert) next-generation system architecture and silicon are utilized by Brilliant's proven, high-performance timing algorithm to allow OEM femtocell equipment makers to deliver best-in-class solutions. These solutions are of importance to the rapidly expanding global femtocell and picocell markets.
In a release, Nigel Toon, CEO of picoChip said, "Brilliant continues to gain market recognition and validation through global deployments of its timing and synchronization solutions. Femtocell (News - Alert) deployments are now gathering pace, with mobile operators increasingly looking beyond the residential environment to enterprise, metropolitan and rural applications. Combining the flexible and cost-effective architecture of our picoXcell PC3xx series and Brilliant's expertise in timing and synchronization helps our customers to realize this wide range of deployment scenarios."
The need to offer improved network coverage along with the need for mobile data offload are the key factors driving the femtocell deployments. The global femtocell market is projected to grow from $230 million in 2009 to $4.6 billion in 2014. The largest femtocell market in 2010 will be the U.S. This is predicted by the global market research and consulting company, MarketsandMarkets.
Advances in FDD-based femtocell and picocell networks will be facilitated by the joint picoChip and Brilliant timing solution. The solution will provide improved frequency accuracy and holdover characteristics with the use of low-cost oscillators. A high-performance network timing recovery algorithm to reduce RF interference is included in the timing solution, available as a licensable NTP client.
In a release, Dr. Charles Barry (News - Alert), president of Brilliant Telecommunicationssaid, "picoChip has long been considered the leader in the development of the femtocell market through its ability to offer a broad range of highly integrated solutions that have been validated through numerous OEM femtocell design wins deployed and operational in mobile operator networks globally. Brilliant's licensed NTP synchronization software, coupled with picoChip's best-in-class core technology, establishes a new paradigm in price performance."
