Providing a preview of its complete mobile PBX solution and Unified MBX, OnRelay has opened the Unified MBX beta program to select people. OnRelay’s (News - Alert) Unified MBX beta program invites customers and service providers to trial Unified MBX in February 2009.
Mobile PBX (News - Alert) is a part of Unified MBX, and enables users to experience “Fixed PBX-like features on mobile” without the necessary investment that is needed to build fixed PBX systems. It also provides mobile operators a true enterprise-class value proposition. Service providers can deliver either mobile-only offerings or combine Mobile PBX with wireline applications, like Hosted PBX and Business Trunking.
To offer a scalable voice over IP (VoIP) system, Unified MBX integrates sipXecs, an open source PBX. sipXecs brings an extensive feature set to Unified MBX based entirely on the Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) (SIP) standard, which includes active directory integration, presence and Microsoft exchange support.
“Unified MBX is the world’s first release of a true Mobile PBX – a fully fledged office communication system designed for mobile phones. Unlike the overly simplified Mobile Centrex approach, Unified MBX has all the user and management features expected from a business class communication system,” comments Ivar Plahte, CEO of OnRelay. “We are particularly proud of our new SIP based call flows.”
Customers can flexibly migrate user groups from legacy telephony hardware to Unified MBX as unified MBX is highly flexible. It also provides on-premises deployment, hosting, and distribution as software as a service (SaaS (News - Alert)) by OnRelay’s partners. They can also reduce the entry barrier for service providers relative to Centrex as the only hardware required is a standard server or VMware instance. Also, they need to get tied down with one mobile service provider and they do not require Wi-Fi.
In October last year, the company released the first call data from a successful Fixed Mobile Convergence (News - Alert) deployment. Covering more than 36,000 calls, this study provides insight into the user penetration attained by cellular FMC technology and its affect on business telephony use.
