Nokia Siemens Networks has produced the first standards compliant 3G femtocell solution, with Airvana providing the 3G High speed Access femtocell in advanced wireless services spectrum.
Femtocells (News - Alert) provide consumers with enhanced mobile connectivity experience with the help of small cellular access points that use a broadband Internet connection. The end-to-end solution will comprise the Nokia Siemens Networks (News - Alert) 3G Femto Gateway, Operation and Maintenance Server and Provisioning Manager.
These Femtocells are fully featured low power mobile phone base stations, connected using standard broadband DSL or Cable service into the mobile operator's network. They offer excellent mobile phone coverage for both voice and data at a lower cost than the regular outdoor service.
It is expected that Nokia Siemens Networks' Value-Added Reseller Pario Solutions, will commence the deployment of the solution in the third quarter of 2010.
Mosaic Telecom, a rural service provider in the United States has selected Nokia Siemens Networks femtocell solution and Airvana's (News - Alert) 3G HSPA femtocell to provide personalized 3G coverage.
As a result, subscribers of Mosaic Telecom will soon enjoy guaranteed access to 3G services around their homes and offices. To support high-quality quad-play services and mobile broadband in their premises, the operator is offering personal, mini, 3G base stations, connected via fixed broadband.
"Femtocells ensure subscribers enjoy the best indoor mobile voice, video and data services, and help offload traffic from the broader 3G network," Rick Vergin, CEO, Mosaic Telecom, said.
Vergin added that not only would this guarantee higher customer satisfaction, but the move was also expected to drive traffic growth in the network, leading to increased revenue per user.
"The femtocell mini base station is important in further promoting 3G in rural areas," Mike Jurcy, head of channels for Nokia Siemens Networks in North America, said.
Jurcy was confident that Mosaic Telecom by delivering top-quality 3G services to its customers, would stand to benefit considerably as the current implementation would only improve the variety and quality of services, generating additional revenue and increasing customer loyalty.
Amit Jain, vice president, femtocell product management, Airvana, said that previously femtocell deployments had been based only on proprietary solutions, however, with the release of the first 3GPP Release 8 standards based femto CPE device, operators are now treading new ground and encouraging the use of an open ecosystem for future growth.
Mosaic Telecom provides telecommunications related products and services, including 3G cellular service to a large portion of northwestern Wisconsin. Mosaic is widely recognized as a leader in the rural telecommunications industry and has been in business for over 50 years.
