Telecom fraud is a hot topic right now, unfortunately, because fraudsters seem to be running rampant. New forms of fraud pop up on a regular basis, and operators, banks and marketers—not to mention fraud solutions providers—are trying to figure out how to keep up. Communications fraud results in millions of lost revenue every single year, and it’s time for that to stop.

That’s why GSMA (News - Alert) has created the Fraud and Security Group (FASG). FASG was been established to drive the industry’s management of fraud and security matters related to GSM technology, networks and services. FASG provides an open, receptive and trusted environment within which fraud and security intelligence and incident details can be shared in a timely and responsible way.

Think of FASG as a meeting of the best minds in anti-fraud efforts. These great minds are joining forces in Miami, FL this week to discuss fraudulent activity and how to stop it. iconectiv (News - Alert), which is an authoritative partner of the global communications industry that connects more than two billion people every day, will be speaking at the event about preserving network integrity and reducing fraud.

iconectiv has been in the telecommunication industry for 30 years, and feels strongly about its mission. “Fraud is an ongoing and continuously evolving threat to the entire telecommunications ecosystem; however fraud can be proactively identified and thwarted when the brightest minds in our industry work together. FASG provides the ideal forum for that kind of collaboration,” said Scott Puopolo, Executive Vice President, Information Solutions iconectiv.

Puopolo will kick off the conference tomorrow, May 9, with an opening day address to attendees. Later that morning, John Kimmins (News - Alert), Senior Security Director, iconectiv, and Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council WG10 Co-Chair, will present a session focused on current security threats and next generation network technology and services. Finally, John Haraburda, Principal Solutions Engineer Director, iconectiv, will provide an overview of various types of telecom fraud and ways to detect them.  Haraburda will also touch on the many benefits the latest virtualization technology is bringing to networks.

As I said, this event is going to be a huge meeting of the best minds in telecom. iconectiv is set to give quite the opening day experience—a clear indicator that the company is well respected in the fraud industry. Aside from iconectiv, the three day event has quite the roster of experts, including thought leaders from telecom organizations and fraud prevention agencies such as AT&T, Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert), Orange, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
