According to a recent industry study by Twilio, nine in 10 consumers wish they could use messaging to communicate with businesses. Text messaging is a convenient form of communication for both businesses and individuals. However, due to the strict Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) regulations, the misuse (intentional or not) of consumer messaging can result in costly fines that end in multi-million dollar class action settlements. Therefore, many marketers and companies are tempted to move away from messaging to avoid those pitfalls altogether, which has the unfortunate side effect of ostracizing them from customers.

Scott Puopolo, Executive Vice President, Information Solutions, iconectiv (News - Alert), explains the importance of utilizing SMS messaging by saying, “Text messaging continues to be a preferred form of communication for consumers…Brands owe it to their customers and shareholders alike to conduct messaging outreach in a safe and responsible manner.”

However, messaging becomes a problem when fraudsters or outdates systems become involved. If fraudsters use a company’s messaging channels to spam customers, the company can get slammed with fines for going out of compliance with the TCPA. Likewise, if companies have outdated contact information and start sending messaging to customers they don’t have permission to contact, they can also get caught up in fines. As a result, some companies are moving away from messaging outreach altogether, which is affecting their relationships with customers.

To bring light to this issue, iconectiv and the Professional Association for Customer Engagement (PACE) will host a webinar to provide valuable insights on boosting customer engagement between consumers and brands, despite stringent Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) messaging regulation. The webinar, titled The Power of Identity: Avoiding the Pitfalls and Costs of Consumer Disengagement, will take place on May 18, 2017.

iconectiv hopes the webinar will be “a valuable asset for marketing professionals, contact center and call center managers, compliance managers and business owners who recognize the value the role of text messaging as part of an omnichannel strategy to drive revenue and brand intimacy within their business operations.” The message behind this webinar is directly in line with the purpose of iconectiv’s new Right Party Verification for Messaging, which is meant to aid marketers in their advertising efforts by helping them comply with TCPA regulations and allowing them to focus on what they do best: marketing.

There’s no ignoring the fact that messaging is one of the best ways for brands to communicate with consumers. However, doing so can be difficult when outdated contact information makes it easy for marketers to unknowingly break TCPA guidelines. This is a problem plaguing hundreds of marketers and businesses around the world. So why not take the first step toward solving this issue? REGISTER HERE for the webinar to learn more.
