Echo Nest Enables BBC to Deliver Unique Musical Content

The Echo Nest, a music intelligence company that connects application developers to data and music, enabling the next generation of music experiences, has signed an agreement with the British Broadcasting Corporation to “power the clip-to-clip recommendations in the BBC's new Music Showcase product.”

The Music Showcase product brings together all of the BBC's music clips from across radio and TV. Echo Nest's technology cross-references the BBC’s curated music content with artist relationships, online conversation and other data, enabling BBC to deliver musical content that cannot be found elsewhere. Music Showcase can then deliver an optimized selection of music, videos, articles, blog posts and reviews to the BBC’s millions of online users.

In a press release, Jim Lucchese, CEO of Echo Nest, said, "It's an honor to be working with the BBC, a global music institution that has achieved something quite unique, combining a rich history of editorial excellence with forward-thinking digital music innovation. As a music fan, I'm excited about the possibilities of our platform in the BBC's hands."

The Echo Nest is a music intelligence platform that powers smarter music apps across the Web and various devices. Powered by a machine learning system that actively reads about and listens to music everywhere on the Web, Echo Nest opens up a massive repository of dynamic music data to application developers ranging from one-person operations to multi-national corporations. To date, more than 100 music applications have been built on its platform.

Co-founded in 2005 by two MIT (News - Alert) Media Lab Ph.D.s, Brian Whitman and Tristan Jehan, the Echo Nest is a winner of three National Science Foundation SBIR grants.

MTV recently teamed up with the Echo Nest for Music Meter, the latest chart tracking the most ‘buzzed-about’ artists online. People can scan through the chart, listen to music samples, see photos and videos, and check out similar artists. It’s the first of several music discovery, consumption and interaction products due to be launched by the two companies
