OTTER LLC recently announced that their popular texting management app will now be available for a one time download price of just $3.99.
In a press release, Erik Wood, founder and CEO of OTTER LLC said, “Demonstrating how affordable a Text and Drive solution can be is one of our biggest goals. Putting the power in the hands of the end user is the key changing habits and creating sustainably safer drivers on the highway today.”
The concept for OTTER first came about in the latter half of 2009 and today is awaiting patent. This was a unique app, in that it brought together texting auto reply and GPS functionality. Seamlessly integrating these capabilities, it created a tool that permitted users to handle their texts irrespective of location. OTTER comes with a GPS-based Parental Control feature which is meant to overlook their teen’s actions, as this age group is looked at as a high risk category of drivers. With specific pass codes, parents will be able to switch on the GPS and know the location of the specific driver at any point. OTTER promotes itself as a texting management system for any type of situation and provides the flexibility of having "texting blackout periods", allowing you to concentrate on the task at hand such as a business meeting.
Jon Lam, OTTER Co-Founder added, “Charging smartphone users lots of money to lock down their property and then throwing in recurring fees is a formula that ultimately annoys customers and gets them to debate civil liberties instead of public safety. We have noticed an increase in employees buying second smartphones when their company’s cell phone is locked down. This individual is still texting while driving and so we have missed our opportunity to create a sustainably safer driver.”
In the past, the OTTER or the One Touch Text Response app sold for a retail price of $4.99. However, users can now download the app on Android, Blackberry as well as Symbian (News - Alert) (Nokia) smartphones for the newly reduced price.
