When we think of a cellular phone for senior citizens, we think of a basic mobile phone with minimal features and a huge, unattractive design. In most of the mobile handsets available for senior citizens, usability gets the first priority, and hardly any manufacturer thinks about providing advanced features like MMS to senior citizens.

Swedish cell phone manufacturer, Doro (News - Alert) has decided to be different. The company recently introduced its newest model - the Doro PhoneEasy 612 - in Canada. Providing features to support the more robust lifestyles that Canadian seniors are now enjoying, this new phone is created with the changing profile of seniors in mind.

Making Doro popular among the elderly and those with special needs, the Doro PhoneEasy 612 provides a camera with multimedia messaging (MMS) and other features such as improved sound with adjustable frequency. Senior users can have an active lifestyle, share experiences and feel like they are still connected with family and friends who may live far away with the Doro PhoneEasy 612, the company stated in a statement.

“We see a growing curiosity among seniors to use a mobile phone with a camera. However, many of them feel intimidated or overwhelmed by complicated devices with an endless array of functions," said Doro's GM in North America, Christopher Lundstrom in a company statement.

Adding, "That's why we're so pleased to now offer our Canadian customers an easy to use camera solution.”

Recently, the company announced a complete mobile ecosystem suited for an older demographic. The system consists of its first ever smartphone for seniors, the Doro PhoneEasy 740. At a recently conducted event, where it was unveiled to the U.S. market, Doro was awarded prices for its innovative software. It won the Best of CTIA Wireless (News - Alert) 2012 Award from Techlicious and came third in the prestigious CTIA E-Tech Awards.
