Samsung Electronics Launches Drive Link

Drive Link, Samsung (News - Alert) Electronics’ latest innovative Smartphone app, is designed to make driving and using your smartphone as safe as possible. The app has met safety certification standards and is so safe that it abides to one of the world’s strictest driver’s safety regulation standards, set forth by the Japanese Automotive Manufacturers Association.

The app provides simple and easy navigation with a clear and uncluttered interface, matched with enlarged buttons. The home screen can be personalized with current location and time, and display appointments from the smartphone’s integrated calendar.

Other features include text-to-speech, which reads and speaks incoming e-mails, SMS and social media updates – all through the car’s speaker system.

In addition, Drive Link can connect to MirrorLink, the new standard connectivity protocol between smartphone and car head units from the Car Connectivity Consortium. MirrorLink provides safe and seamless assimilation between a smartphone and a car’s infotainment system, found in GM, Toyota, Honda (News - Alert), Volkswagen and Hyundai automobiles.

Drive Link provides a complete navigation capability, similar to a detachable or in-car GPS system. The user can choose preset, recent or favorite destinations like on a normal GPS device. The difference is that if there are any addresses on an incoming SMS or an address is present on a current appointment in the calendar, setting it as the destination is just one click away.

Drive Link also is heavily linked to entertainment, playing music stored on the phone through a standard car radio. Users are also able to use Drive Link to connect with TuneIn, an Internet Radio app with over 70,000 streaming stations from all over the world.

"With this application we ensure users can retain the core functionality of their smartphone while making sure their experience is as safe as possible," Samsung Executive VP, Wonpyo Hong, said in a statement.

Unfortunately, Drive Link will only be available on the Samsung Galaxy S III. It will, however, be made on other Android (News - Alert) smartphones running 4.0 ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) in the future.
