Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (News - Alert) (CY), a company that provides touch-sensing solutions, recently announced that its Gen4 TrueTouch touchscreen controller has been selected by Pantech Co. (News - Alert), Ltd. the latter’s flagship Vega R3 smartphone.

According to officials at Cypress, the Gen4 TrueTouch touchscreen controller will improve the touch performance and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the Vega R3 smartphone featuring 5.3-inch LCD display.

The Gen4 TrueTouch touchscreen controller provides single-Layer independent multitouch sensor for screens up to 4.5 inches, and slashes manufacturing cost with only one ITO layer and no bridges.

The solution also works with sensor-on-lens and display integrated stackups for the thinnest designs in the industry, and requires no bezel for borderless designs.

“Pantech timed the debut of the Vega R3 to go head-to-head against new smartphones from larger competitors, which is a reflection of the confidence we have in the features of this model,” said Yeonsu Lee, senior MTS (News - Alert), R&D Center at Pantech. “The Cypress TrueTouch solution provided the design flexibility and multi-finger tracking performance we required to make the Vega R3 touchscreen a differentiating feature of the phone.”

The Gen4 TrueTouch touchscreen controller improves SNR and reduces phantom touches. Moreover, it works effectively with the noisiest third-party chargers for noticeably improved performance. The solution features external display synchronization, and helps neutralize noise from the LCD.

It is an ideal solution for all stackup types, including display-integrated solutions.

"The Pantech Vega R3 is a world-class smartphone, and we are pleased that TrueTouch technology powers the touchscreen," said Cathal Phelan, executive vice president of Cypress’s Consumer and Computation Division. "The Gen4 TrueTouch solution contributes to the sleek design of the phone while delivering top multitouch performance even in the noisiest of operating conditions."

In related news, Cypress recently completed its tender offer for all of the outstanding shares of common stock of Ramtron International Corporation (NASDAQ: RMTR). The subsequent offering period expired at 5:00 p.m. EST, on October 17, 2012.
