Alcatel One Touch – a designer, developer and marketer of a growing range of mobile and Internet products – recently released the One Touch Shockwave, a smartphone designed for consumers seeking durability as well as dependable connectivity to social networking and easy access to multimedia.

This device is currently available through U.S. Cellular (News - Alert) online and in stores for $50 with a compatible smartphone plan.

The Shockwave boasts advanced built-in durability features such as shock resistant casing, super tough Dragontail tempered glass and a water resistant housing, providing a high level of durability without added bulk.

The device also features an anti-slip finish and materials that are scratch and ding resistant.

"Today's on-the-go customer doesn't want to compromise looks and performance for durability," said Reza Sadr, carrier sales director at Alcatel One Touch. "The One Touch Shockwave provides a tough exterior in a low profile case and provides quick-access tools for social media, productivity and entertainment."

In terms of software, the Shockwave features a host of productivity apps, texting and instant messaging, as well as popular social networking and music apps, while access to the Google Play market provides the Android (News - Alert) 2.3-based device with practically any app to suit users' needs. Under the hood, the Shockwave sports an 800 MHz processor, a 3.2-megapixel camera and standard Wi-Fi radio.

Of course, the device sports a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with HVGA (640 x 240) resolution.

Alcatel One Touch devices have been successful in global markets including Europe and Latin America, while the company is currently ranked number seven in worldwide shipments of mobile devices by ABI Research (News - Alert).

The company released a device, the One Touch Premiere, in August billed as the "first premium messaging phone offered by U.S. Cellular." The device is available on the carrier's monthly data service option, Messaging Plus.

A basic feature phone device based around messaging, the Premiere features a full QWERTY keyboard.
