While tablets and smartphones are certainly bringing in quite a bit of revenue for the companies that make the main components, such as HTC (News - Alert) and Apple, the growing need for high-quality display screens has also meant good years for companies like LG Display. In fact, this year is one of the most successful years in recent memory for the company, as they posted their first profit in the last two years.

That profit comes after numerous bumps in the road, including when the state of New York filed an antitrust lawsuit against several LCD suppliers including LG Display a couple of years ago. LG Display, which usually goes head to head in the LCD market with Samsung (News - Alert), posted its first profitable quarter in a few years after seven straight money losing quarters. In the quarter that spanned July to September, LG Display saw a $230 million profit. The good news was mixed with a little bit of a deflater since that number was actually below what most people thought the company would see when it came to posting a profit.

Perhaps the best news for the company is that there doesn’t appear to be a fall in the near future. Most industry insiders are saying that the profits earned from producing display screens for the Apple (News - Alert) iPhone and other mobile devices will only add on to the recent success. The massive demand of the iPhone 5 alone should help the company, who outfitted the screen see other mobile device companies come knocking at their door. If this particular quarter is any indication then LG Display could be looking at some serious success over the next couple of years. With issues like the anti-trust lawsuit in their rearview mirror it also seems to indicate that the company can focus more on the business side and continue to improve.
