Vivante is committed to facilitating the development and adoption of an open in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) reference platform.

The company has joined the GENIVI Alliance to this end.

GENIVI is dedicated to making it easy for businesses to simplify the development, testing, deployment and field support of IVI platforms.

Its platform is unified across an automotive OEMs entire product line, and aims to accelerate mass adoption by facilitating development from concept to production.

Membership in GENIVI Alliance, an automotive and consumer electronics industry association, will enable Vivante to expand its footprint in the automotive market.

The company will achieve this through leveraging partnerships with established silicon vendors, automotive manufacturers, tier-one suppliers, ISVs and middleware providers.

Vivante specializes in the delivery of graphics and GPU Compute technologies for consumer and embedded devices. This strategic move will enable the company to bring GPU expertise to the consortium and facilitate innovations in IVI HMI displays.

Vivante notes that people notice IVI design and features in an automobile, and this is why it is so important for manufacturers to focus on this area.

The technology is applicable to several applications, including radio, location services and telephony.

Rightware is a member of the GENIVI Alliance and provides users with a unique HMI solution to create visually stunning user interfaces.

“Rightware's Kanzi Solution, which supports OpenGL ES 3.0, enables designers to take advantage of Vivante's OpenGL ES 3.0 hardware and continue pushing the envelope in graphical HMI quality,” said Ville Ilves, COO at Rightware. “By combining these two technologies, automotive OEMs are able to deliver desktop-quality graphics and performance to the screens in your car.”

Vivante was in the news last year for announcing another update in its multi-core GPU IP family.
