RIM Product Lineup Leaked Showing New Touch BlackBerry Device

Two days after Thorsten Heins, former COO, took over the reins at Research In Motion (RIM), the company’s product lineup for the upcoming year, showing a focus on their BlackBerry (News - Alert) mobile devices, has been allegedly leaked online.

Boy Genius Report (BGR) said RIM is hard at work on a series of new product launches that will culminate with the launch of their first BlackBerry 10 device during the second half of the year. The company, known specifically for their QWERTY keyboards, is taking a risk by debuting its new BlackBerry 10 device, also known at RIM as BlackBerry London (temporary title), its first all-touch device.

BGR said RIM will then launch another mobile device soon after that will combine both the QWERTY keyboard and a touch device, pleasing customers that want the ability to swipe through their devices to access content, but still want the ability to physically type emails and text messages.

Although Heins took over RIM, the company has yet to see any major support from its stockholders. Before the leaked product line hit the Internet, the stock fell another 3.2 percent. Paul Taylor, Chief Investment Office for BMO Harris Private Banking, said investors are still not showing confidence in RIM even after Heins was named the new CEO. Taylor said it’s most likely due to the fact that Heins said business would still run as usual.

“The words they heard from the incoming CEO were not exactly reassuring. It seemed to imply a lack of recognition that broader change would be a good thing and they didn’t necessarily need a plan to make that change, but a plan to get a plan,” said Taylor.

Shortly after Taylor made those statements, Heins defended his CEO status saying he has already begun making his own path in the company and is looking into the idea of BlackBerry 10 being licensed to other companies.

Taylor said it’s a start, but not one that will rally support. “That would be something pretty fundamentally different, to license their own software, but it was mentioned very late in a conference call, and I think listeners had already decided [on him] by then,” said Taylor.

Taylor’s comments are just some of the pressure RIM has been facing as competition has increased from Andriod and iOS users. RIM is looking to bring back the trust of their stockholders by releasing what they hope will be a very popular BlackBerry device.
