Belkin's FlyWire Allows HDTV Placement Anywhere in Home

A Los Angeles-based electronics integration company today is unveiling a cable-free way to connect a high-definition television anywhere a consumer wants.
Officials from Belkin say their new “FlyWire” solution transmits 1080-pixel picture resolution while connecting HDTVs and projectors to devices such as Blu-ray players, receivers, video-game consoles and set-top boxes.
“Operating in the open 5 gigahertz band, FlyWire offers a completely robust connection,” Belkin officials say. “It intelligently manages its own connection, adjusting both frequency and power to avoid interference and overcome impedances.”

The $1,000 product should be out later this year, Belkin says.
There are impedances – things that hinder current flow – as well as impediments to finding a satisfying HDTV set up at home, statistics show.
A study last year by Parks Associates showed that while about half of respondents wanted to mount their flat-panel TVs, just 28 managed the feat.
Yet in its January 2008 Industry Forecasts report, the CEA said that sales of flat-panel TVs grew by 52 percent from 2006 to 2007.
And Long Island-based ABI Research (News - Alert) is calling for installations of wireless HDTVs to grow 142 percent between 2007 and 2013.
Belkin officials say they’re looking to deliver a high-quality product to ride that wave.
“Because FlyWire does not compress video, it transmits video content with no latency,” they say. “Even the most demanding AV applications, like video games, will not be impaired by the wireless transmission. FlyWire’s SD card slot also allows for upgrade and expansion options.”
Specifically, FlyWire comes with a transmitter that connects to AV components – digital HD or analog – and a receiver that mounts to a HDTV, allowing consumers to hook up an HDTV “in the living room, kitchen, or even outdoors,” Belkin officials say.
