Dell (News - Alert) introduced a new series of Latitude and Dell Precision laptops, including a compact, mobile commercial laptop and a powerful mobile workstation. The new Latitude systems are capable of offering nearly 19 hours of battery life and they are available in five different colors.
The ultra portable Dell Latitude E4200 and other laptops are designed for road warriors and executives who demand maximum performance and light weight design. The systems will be available in the coming weeks. The E6400 and E6500 are mainstream laptops which can replace desktop PCs for high-performance users.
The Latitude E6400 ATG is a semi-rugged laptop built and tested to meet Military 810F standards for dust, vibration and humidity. The Latitude E5400 and E6500 include every day features at a cost-effective price.
The Latitude body is made of full-magnesium alloy and features metal hinges. The keyboard is sophisticated and easy to use with Dell ControlPoint centralizing control of user settings for power management, connectivity and security management all in a single application.
The intelligent backlit keyboard automatically adjusts to ambient light levels. The exclusive ControlVault solution protects user credentials and security keys in a security “vault” away from the systems main drive.
The E6500 has both contact-less Smart Card reader and a fingerprint reader which complies with Federal Information Processing Standards.
Dell Latitude ON is a new technology which enables near-instant access to e-mail, calendar, attachments, contacts and the Web with no need for booting into the main OS. This uses a dedicated low-voltage sub-processor and OS which enables a multi-day battery life.
Dell stated that the ISV-certified Dell precision mobile workstations are aimed at customers in the engineering, media, entertainment and biosciences industries. Dell also came up with a 17-inch mobile workstation supporting up to 16 GB of RAM, a 1 GB graphics card, upcoming quad-core processors and up to a terabyte of storage on two drives.
All these new laptops and mobile workstations are available with Energy Star 4.0-compliant configurations and they meet EPEAT “Gold” rated configurations.
They are all available with Dell’s ProSupport Mobility Services, a suite of modular services that help companies protect assets and data.
Dell can also automate data encryption on all laptops and centrally manage company-defined security policies in a ways transparent to the user.
