Marvell and Hanwang Introduce a New Generation of eReaders

If you are one of those book addicts who cannot rest until you lay your hands on the latest chart topper in the market, your nearest bookstore may not be your only destination. eReaders, touted as the preferred medium of today’s youngsters to read books, my offer an attractive alternative.

 
Now, to make that alternative more affordable and even more attractive, Marvell has teamed up with Hanwang to introduce a new generation of eReaders aimed at higher performance, greater versatility and true mass market pricing. 
 
The ARMADA 166E, which is said to be the center to this eReader platform, provides the industry's first fully-integrated EPD controller with a processor utilizing the ARM (News - Alert) instruction set. Allowing users to experience ultra-fast system performance and quick renderings of high-resolution PDF or ePub documents, the combination delivers best-in-class user experiences and support for the latest Android (News - Alert), Linux, and WinCE operating systems.
 
“Marvell's goal is to deliver superior eReader technology and a better consumer experience at mass market prices," said Weili Dai, Marvell's (News - Alert) co-founder and vice president and general manager of Marvell Semiconductor's Consumer and Computing Business Unit.
 
"Marvell's complete portfolio of high performance, low power semiconductor solutions promise a new era of connected mobile devices featuring always-on, live content, new consumer experiences and services, superior battery life, and greater value”
 
Other features provided in this eReader platform include a unique hibernation or zero power mode that enables users to enjoy more than 8,000 pages of content with a single battery charge. Other features include automatic partial updates, per-pixel processing, and parallel updates for smooth, enjoyable visual experiences.
 
Recently, the company introduced "3D by Marvell", support for 3D Blu-ray playback integrated in the ARMADA 1000 High Definition (HD) Media Processor (News - Alert) System-on-a-Chip (SoC). With Marvell's forward thinking and innovative mindset, the ARMADA 1000 HD Media Processor, 88DE3010, is designed to deliver an immersive digital entertainment experience that equips manufacturers with the tools needed to support 3D content in the comfort of consumers' homes.
