NETS Modernizes Veterans Affairs Enterprise Communications

Nelson Enterprise Technology Services (NETS) will provide public key infrastructure (PKI) migration support to modernize and streamline the entirety of Veterans Affairs Enterprise Communications (News - Alert).

A contract has been signed to this end and work will begin from Oct. 15, 2012. For this project, NETS will plan, implement and support the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) anticipated migration of its legacy ActivID card management system (CMS) to another PKI hosted management environment.

VA operates a large IT infrastructure, providing essential services and support to over 500,000 American service veterans and their families.

NETS specializes in IT infrastructure, systems engineering and network solutions. CMS provider ActivIdentity (News - Alert) assisted NETS to bring additional niche capabilities to the VA and enable a smooth transition to Entrust's SPP PKI solution.

NETS will also configure, test, cut-over and triage the migration for this project.

All this assistance will help minimize negative impact to the software, hardware and systems that support the VA's 230 locations nationwide.

This is not the first time NETS has helped Veterans Affairs, as it is already designing, developing and deploying an optical network to support the VA's anticipated growth in communications requirements across three of its core business units.

In addition, NETS is also helping VA with migrating from IPv4 to IPv6 by 2014. 

NETS was in the news earlier this month for launching its national Drive Safely Work Week (DSWW) campaign, which promotes safe driving education and awareness materials for all employees and their families.
