Telework Exchange, a public-private partnership that raises awareness on the advantages of telework, has just changed its name to Mobile Work Exchange and has now been assigned with engaging in discussions with the federal government over mobile IT environments.
Mobile Work Exchange promises to continue programs such as Telework Week, an annual meeting that encourages organizations and individuals to telework within a one-week period. It will also continue its regular town hall meetings and courses.
The reason why Mobile Work Exchange overhauled itself comes from the new initiative by the government to expand its telework adoption while making mobility a priority with federal workers. According to the 2012 Office of Personnel Management Status of Telework Report, nearly 25 percent of all federal workers were teleworking, while 31 percent of them were in the position to do so. That quantifies a successful widespread adoption of teleworking amongst government workers.
So what do government agencies have to say about this?
"Today's workforce is becoming more agile than ever, and telework is one of the components driving the mobile-enabled 21st century workforce,” said Charles McClam, deputy CIO of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. “At USDA, we've made it possible for our employees to effectively perform their duties from anywhere using Web-enabled technologies and mobile applications. These technologies and applications, coupled with effective telework policies and guidance, have all played a vital role in allowing USDA to increase employee satisfaction and productivity as well as securely and efficiently work with our customers outside the traditional brick-and-mortar office environment.”
“We look forward to our continued partnership with Mobile Work Exchange to discuss such important topics for today's federal workforce,” he said.
To help ease transitions into telework adoption, Mobile Work Exchange provides best practices in effective communication strategies, recruitment and retention, work-life balance, and other things that could affect the workforce's transition. It's important to make sure that teleworkers become as efficient as office workers, if not more efficient due to their flexible environments.
To do this, there are a lot of growing pains involved.
The purpose of Mobile Work Exchange is to ensure that these pains are as minimal as possible for organizations choosing to adopt this strategy.
