FreeWave Technologies, a manufacturer of high performance, lowest power consumption, spread spectrum and licensed radios, announced that at the AWEA 2011 it will be exhibiting its new wireless data radios and service offerings built for the wind energy industry.

The demonstration will also include the FreeWave’s efforts with its partner Turningpoint Wind to offer a complete wind condition monitoring solution for wind farm operators across the globe.

Officials with the company stated that FreeWave’s wireless data radio technology is a great cost-effective and scalable option for operators to tap when it comes to ensuring a trouble-free wind turbine.

At the AWEA 2011, the company will be demonstrating its line of FGR2-PE wireless data radios, a communications solution for a number of wind applications, such as orientation and positioning, tracking controls, status updates, telemetry, SCADA, temperature and pressure monitoring and performance reporting.

According to the company, the FGR2-PE offers industrial Serial and Ethernet wireless connectivity using license-free spread spectrum for data communication over long distance and it offers users two switched Ethernet ports as well as two selectable RS232/422/485 Serial ports to meet the demands of customers’ wireless automation requirements. The future-proof combination of ports gives customers the ability to transition from Serial to Ethernet data communications without having to replace their wireless communications infrastructure.

For wind energy industry, FreeWave solutions offer a cost effective alternative to fiber, satellite and cell phone technologies. The turbine operator is equipped with the ability to halt the turbine from a potential disaster by detecting problems before they occur which will only result in immeasurable savings in machine repairs or replacements, also avoid loss of production time and prevent fines.

FreeWave added that the FGR2-PE's ability to communicate over long distances reliably and in environments with a lot of RF noise is the reason why companies, like Turningpoint, have selected it to ensure smooth, uninterrupted communications for its customers.
