Commodity traders like to take risks—but not with their own ability to do business effectively. That’s why Europe’s newest bio-fuels trading house, Ambrian Energy, chose the easily deployable, Web-based AspectCTRM suite from Aspect (News - Alert) Enterprise Solutions for its front-to-back-office trading and risk management operations—and installed it in a weekend.
Ambrian Energy GmbH was founded last August, when the London-based Ambrian Capital, a stock brokerage firm, acquired a physical bio-fuels business from Masefield Group, headquartered in Zug, Switzerland. The new Ambrian Energy division of Ambrian Capital is a trader and supplier of palm-, rapeseed- and soybean-based bio-diesel fuels, with access to the oil and gas equity research and corporate finance skills of its parent company.
Bernd Sturmheit, formerly the Global Head of the New Energies business at Masefield, is now Managing Director at Ambrian Energy “Having worked with AspectCTRM before, I was assured of its capabilities,” says Sturmheit. “For Ambrian Energy, they were the best solution for trade capture and risk management.”
AspectCTRM was deployed and tested at Ambrian Energy over a single weekend, and fully operational when traders returned to their desks on the Monday morning.
Yags Savania , Director of Sales for London-based Aspect Enterprise Solutions, commented, “The scalability of AES’s Software-as-a-Service solutions and the speed with which they can be deployed contrasts dramatically with client-software systems, which typically take a year or more to implement and which fail to effectively scale downward to support smaller trading operations.”
AspectCTRM offers three editions that scale with the needs of its users: Lite, Standard, and Enterprise. The Lite Edition features turnkey front-office functionality— including trade capture, position keeping, profit and loss tracking, and market risk. These features are limited for the trial version. The expanded Standard and Enterprise Editions are robust in features covering the full spectrum of functionality for trade and risk management, and physical and financial operations with advanced reporting, integration and more.
Even in a large scale fully end-to-end implementation, key elements of AspectCTRM, such as deal capture and risk analysis, can be in place, working and delivering value within a matter of days, with successive additional elements going live as the progress of integration projects allows.
