The HomePlug (News - Alert) GP (“Green PHY”) is a new specification that focuses on smart grid / smart energy applications. HomePlug GP works with customer requirements for cost, coverage and performance. Apart from companies that manufacture meters, automobiles and appliances, it is also driven by input from utility companies.
Recently, Qualcomm (News - Alert) Atheros, a networking and connectivity subsidiary of Qualcomm, introduced the industry's first industrial-grade HomePlug Green PHY (HPGP) device, the QCA7000-AL3B.
Offering complete industrial temperature support to the product line, the QCA7000-AL3B is both hardware and software compatible with the previously introduced QCA7000. The product is useful in outdoor applications such as electric meters and solar panels and electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE).
Offering all the QCA7000 features announced before, the QCA7000-AL3B is available in 8x8 (News - Alert) quad-flat no-leads package, which according to the company, is the market's smallest form factor. It is also equipped with state of the art software and hardware support packages and provides a fully integrated single chip solution, the company has stated.
“The QCA7000-AL3B adds to our expanding portfolio of low-energy, standards-based communication solutions designed to connect the Internet of Everything," said Adam Lapede, senior director of product management at Qualcomm Atheros (News - Alert). "Qualcomm Atheros continues to build its broad portfolio of HomePlug Green PHY solutions that enable an ecosystem of ultra-low power, PLC-connected devices, which address unique environmental requirements, like the QCA7000 does for outdoor applications.”

Facilitating a new generation of advanced smartphones, tablets and other smart devices, the Snapdragon family of mobile processors provides an optimal combination of mobile processing performance, powerful multimedia, wireless connectivity and power efficiency. According to the company, this new addition offers its OEM and operating partners with a competitive and differentiated platform.
