SinkPAD Unveils Star PCBs for High-Power LEDs

Thermal management company, SinkPAD, recently announced the availability of SinkPAD Star PCB for the new Luxeon-T and the Cree (News - Alert) MK-R LEDs, the high-power LEDs.

SinkPAD is a thermal management Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology which allows heat to be conducted out of a LED in a faster and more efficient manner. SinkPAD is widely recognized as an alternative technology to the conventional Aluminum PCB or MCPCB.

In a statement, lighting Innovator Ian Osborn called this technology as the "Fastest Heat Moving Technology on the market."

SinkPAD conducts heat out of the LED system by creating a direct thermal path between the LED and the surrounding atmosphere, eliminating thermal resistance of the dielectric material in a traditional IMS PCB or MCPCB.

SinkPAD Corporation's new thermal management printed circuit boards are a complete and effective solution to the challenges facing the solid state lighting industry, specifically those with high-power LED PCB applications.

Mentioning the ways in which SinkPAD help in the market, company officials said SinkPAD still uses a dielectric, but one that isolates the metal base electrically and leaves it thermally connected.

This not only increases thermal conductivity, but directly reduces production costs.

In cases of applications that already had inadequate thermal conduction rates and then came to require an active cooling system, the reliance on these active cooling systems can be greatly reduced, which in turn lowers the size of these systems or eliminating them altogether, which also limits production costs.

The thermal path should be electrically neutral within the LED package, i.e. Cree XPG, XML, XTE, MK-R, Luxeon Rebel, M, T from Philips (News - Alert) Lumiled, or N219 from Nichia, in order to solder the LED directly to the SinkPAD.

Recently, Kris Vasoya, chief technology officer at SinkPAD stated, "We are up and running, ready to support our customers with our problem-solving LED thermal management PCBs using our SinkPAD technology.”
