Expanded Partnership between ECOtality and Kroger Gives the Country Over 200 More EV Charging Stations

The Hollywood celebrities are no longer the sole users of expensive electric and hybrid vehicles. Realizing their money-saving capabilities in the long haul, car buyers today are increasingly opting for these energy-friendly automobiles. This calls for the erection of more charging stations in public places, such as malls, super markets and so on. 

A renewed EV partnership between ECOtality, the clean electricity company, and Kroger Co., the retail giant, is geared toward meeting this need.

ECOtality offers electric vehicle charging stations under the Blink brand, and provides a turnkey network operating system for EV drivers, commercial businesses and utilities.

Under the expanded partnership, Krogar will install over 200 level 2 (quick charge) charging stations, and 25 DC Fast Chargers across key markets through the EV Project.

With this multimillion dollar expansion, Kroger’s chain of stores will now have close to 300 Blink charging stations in total.

Thanks to this $1.5-million investment by Kroger, over 200 Blink charging stations will now be installed at 125 locations in several key markets, including Phoenix, San Diego and Los Angeles.

These stations add to 60 already installed in Oregon and Washington, and 14 in Texas.

Kroger is not an exception in making such a huge investment in choosing ECOtality’s Blink chargers. These mini-charging stations are becoming increasingly popular with the retailers across the nation, as they have the proven capacity of drawing more customers to their establishments.

Independent researchers have proven how retail chains get rewarded for their investments; Blink card holders feel inclined to spend more time in these facilities, often bringing in repeat business.

“As plug-in electric and hybrid cars are becoming more popular with our customers, we are pleased to offer the convenience of electric vehicle charging stations at more of our stores in markets with the highest demand. Kroger is excited to contribute to the growth of this national network,” Kroger spokesperson Keith Dailey explained in a statement.

“Retailers across the country are quickly realizing the benefits of installing our Blink chargers. Independent research shows that Blink card holders routinely reward these establishments with more time in their stores and repeat business. Kroger not only recognizes this value, but continues to show its commitment to be a leader in sustainability for the food retail industry. We are thrilled that the nation's largest supermarket chain, Kroger, chose to expand its EV charging station roll-out with Blink,” CEO at ECOtality, Ravi Brar, noted in a statement.
