Staples (News - Alert) Inc. has successfully recycled 350 million ink and toner cartridges as part of its cartridge recycling program, initiated in 2005. In the last three years, the organization has been recycling nearly 60 million cartridges each year.
Staples has been able to salvage 182 million pounds of plastics and metals, which roughly corresponds to the weight of an aircraft carrier, or 400 times the weight of the Statue of Liberty. As part of the ink and toner cartridge recycling program from Staples, customers stand to receive $2 in Staples Rewards for every cartridge given for recycle purposes. Customers can give back a maximum of 10 cartridges each month.
Customers can leave their used cartridges at any retail Staples store. They can use the Ink Recycling Rewards to purchase any item from Staples, both at retail stores and on the web. Staples Rewards members are also eligible for free shipping from Staples.com. They are also eligible for five percent cash back on all purchases.
In a statement, Mark Buckley, vice president for environmental affairs at Staples Inc., said, "Staples is America's number one choice for ink and toner, in part because of our great cartridge recycling program.
