Windstream Kicks Off Annual Green Truck Tour

Windstream (News - Alert) Corporation, a phone, broadband and digital TV provider, is kicking off its third Green Truck Tour to spread community donations and safety messages throughout its 16-state service area.

The Green Truck is a refurbished 1953 vintage pickup truck that depicts Windstream’s rural and suburban heritage on the outside and its commitment to future innovation on the inside, as illustrated by its revved up interior.

The truck, which appears in commercials and marketing initiatives, was recently adorned with new yellow and orange flame decals to promote the launch of Windstream’s fastest broadband Internet speeds, up to 12 Mbps.

Two new 1953 refurbished vintage trucks have been added to the Green Truck Tour fleet, allowing the company to put a total of four iconic trucks on the road that will travel a combined total of more than 50,000 miles from New Mexico to New York and many states in between.

The tour, which is designed to promote Windstream's phone, broadband and digital TV products and services, runs through November with more than 90 stops in 14 states and will donate more than $200,000, double the amount donated in 2007.

Windstream uses the Green Truck Tour as an opportunity to educate the public about how traditional landline phone service offers additional safety, security and reliability, since it continues to work during power outages and failures, and allows emergency responders to pinpoint the exact location from which an emergency call was made.

"'Your Landline is Your Lifeline' is more than a slogan at Windstream, and the Green Truck Tour is evidence of that," said Ron Proleika, vice president of marketing communications for Windstream.

"We use the tour as an opportunity to provide local communities with gifts designed to meet their specific needs - and the majority of those revolve around safety. Last year, for example, we donated everything from police K9 (canine) bullet-proof vests to defibrillators and CPR dummies, and this year we will continue to donate safety gear, equipment and educational materials."

In addition to donating needed items to local communities, the Green Truck Tour will perform “Random Acts of Kindness,” in the cities it visits, which include rewarding residents for their good deeds.

Whenever a Windstream representative from the Green Truck Tour notices a local resident doing something kind for a fellow citizen, whether it's holding a door open or helping to carry groceries to a car, he or she will give the good neighbor a monetary reward for that "Random Act of Kindness."

"This is one of the neighborly ways Windstream is getting involved locally. It's about helping one another and connecting with the communities we serve," Proleika said. "Customers will also want to be on the lookout for the Green Truck for their chance to have their picture taken next to the Green Truck, play games and receive prizes."

Windstream Communications is based in Little Rock, Ark., and provides phone, high-speed Internet and digital TV services to customers in 16 states.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Green Truck Tour to learn more, win prizes, and participate in fun activities including a football toss and online photo gallery. The 8-cylinder truck has a 380-horsepower engine, can hit a speed of almost 150 mph, and has a built-in DVD player with a dash-mounted flat screen.

Windstream Corporation is an S&P 500 company and provides voice, broadband and entertainment services to customers in 16 states. The company has about 3.2 million access lines and about $3.3 billion in annual revenues.
