Attention grass roots gamers: ever miss the old days of games, boxed-shaped cartridges and accessories playing primitive audio of pixilated video? Save the primitive part, and SteelSeries just released a new ErgoRetro product line comprised of an 8-bit themed headset, keyboard and mouse to reflect the old school era we all reminisce over.
SteelSeries is a major producer of video game equipment and software. The company has taken a spot on the front line of avid and competitive gaming gear and provided users with unique designs for ten years.
The SteelSeries keyboard, inspired by the company’s first mechanical video game keyboard introduced in 2007, assumes classic depth and durability, enhanced with flat, obvious, 8-bit style keys that dare to stress retro fashion over futuristic function.
The matching mouse is nothing more than a box with excellent edges and a surface area for easy grip, slide and click. The mouse also features a TrackBlock sensor with a similar 8-bit flair.
SteelSeries completes the ensemble with the ErgoRetro headset. They’re simple, according to gamerfront.net; “make them look cool and the rest will follow.” The ear wear is nonetheless evidence of a simpler, clunkier time, boasting oversized, block-like earpieces that may incidentally provide some noise cancellation. The piece weighs in at a taxing 8.6 lbs. How did we wear these back in the day?!
No release date or price point for the 8-bit themed series has been announced. SteelSeries’ Facebook (News - Alert) page offers those interested a chance to win each new product through several lotteries.
In an effort to better reflect their users’ preferences, SteelSeries attended the Major League Gaming (MLG) Winter Championship in Columbus, OH. last month and offered spectators and participants the opportunity to provide feedback to the companies up-and-coming products, cobranded by MLG. SteelSeries hosted its own booth at the event, according to the source, and asked attendees about issues in architecture, functionality and aesthetics.
