Corero Network Security’s technology has been chosen by GamersFirst to alleviate DDoS attacks. Online gaming response times at GamersFirst, which were constantly disturbed due to these DDoS attacks, will now resume to its original speed. Corero will also offer GamersFirst total invasion prevention against malevolent content attacks.

At least 28 million gamers in 160 countries are offered services by the web-based gaming portal, GamersFirst. Recently, games could not be played at GamersFirst for extensive periods of time due to spiteful DDoS attacks. With the number of frustrated customers on the rise, GamersFirst turned to Corero for preventing these attacks, thereby making up for lost customers and revenue. Corero had the attacks under control by using its DDoS Defense technology, which has been incorporated into its NGIPS.

In a release, Matt Gee, network engineer of GamersFirst, said, “DDoS attacks cost us thousands of dollars an hour, and the increasingly frequent disruptions were slowing down games, even bringing them to a halt in some cases. It’s all the money that players can’t spend and we can’t get. Corero started to mitigate the DDoS attacks right away. Without Corero, DDoS attacks would slow online gaming response times. Service pretty much stopped if the attack was heavy enough. But now it doesn’t get to that point.”

Several other attacks like SQL injections and cross-site scripting, which tend to attack the back-end databases of the gaming applications, are also identified and prevented by Corero’s NGIPS. Several gamers, who use hacking for clearing game levels on the Web, will also be prevented by Corero’s NGIPS.
