Amico Games Moves Ahead with WAP 2.0 Project

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

IT company Amico Games has reportedly completed the first stage of development of a Wireless Application Protocol 2.0 platform by the Chinese company Galaxy Software. This project is scheduled for completion in July 2010.

Amico specializes in developing multi-player networked mobile phone games, and is set to acquire Galaxy. Once this platform is completed, it will substantially improve the gaming experience and performance of the WAP games developed by Galaxy, said the company’s officials.

Peter Liu, CEO and president of AMCG, expressed his company’s excitement about the completion of the first stage of the WAP 2.0 migration and said it will improve their WAP game performance.

AMCG is committed to providing a better game playing experience to its users and Liu indicated that despite the incomplete nature of the WAP 2.0 migration, their mobile games have achieved improvements and users have provided them with a positive response.

“I am convinced that our WAP game will have a longer life span with our continuing efforts to improve the game playing experience,” Liu said.

WAP is an open international standard for application-layer network communications in a wireless-communication environment. Amico Games said that WAP is mostly used in accessing the internet from a mobile phone. If a WAP browser is installed in a mobile phone it provides all of the basic services of a computer-based Web browser.

WAP was first released in 1998 and users now use WAP 1.0. The second version- WAP 2.0 -adopts general application standards to enable mobile phone users to access the Internet in a way more similar to the traditional PC terminal experience.

Amico said that almost all mobile phones support the WAP 2.0 browser. The company will soon acquire Galaxy Software, which delivers its mobile phone games across JAVA and WAP platforms over 3G and 2.5G mobile telecommunication network in China.
