Digimarc, Winkcode Sign New License Agreement

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor

Digimarc Corporation, a provider of enabling technologies that create digital identities for all forms of media and objects, has licensed its mobile technology to Hong Kong-based Winkcode Interactive, a wholly owned subsidiary of AWT-System Limited, and a software developer and system integrator.

With this, Winkcode joins aquaMobile (News - Alert) in Spain as Digimarc's second licensee of its mobile technology.

As per the terms of this agreement, Winkcode will deliver new, Digimarc-enabled solutions that connect consumers to the web from printed materials using a mobile phone application, and allows them to sell the solutions into Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia and the Macau Region.

"We evaluated a number of technologies before selecting Digimarc Mobile because it provides a superior user experience. Our trade customers like that it does not take up space, nor does it detract from the design or content being presented," Michael Yue, general manager, Winkcode said.

Winkcode has been enabling its mobile solutions to major publishing companies, advertising agencies and consumer brands looking to retain readers, attract younger audiences and engage consumers through enhanced, interactive experiences on today's camera-equipped smart phones.

"By working with Digimarc, we believe we are uniquely positioned to assist the publishing and advertising industries to create enriched mobile experiences for consumers," Yue added.

Digimarc's mobile technology facilitates the phone's camera to see digital data embedded into all forms of printed materials, including advertisements, editorial content, brochures, posters, product packaging, and more.

"Because the technology effectively turns newspapers, magazines, and other printed materials into web browsers, it provides instant gratification to consumers by instantly and efficiently connecting them to a wealth of information, entertainment and assistance online," Bruce Davis, chairman and chief executive officer of Digimarc said.

"Brands now have the opportunity to complete an entire sales cycle in one user session - taking the consumer from seeing an advertisement, to instantly accessing reviews from other consumers, to delivering discounts and promos, all the way to completing the sale on the phone," Davis added.

Jeri Owen, vice president, Marketing, Digimarc also believed that his company's technology will allow Winkcode to address the ever-growing need of publishing companies, brands and advertising agencies to better engage consumers on the device they carry with them 24/7.
