An updated version ViaMotion 3.0 of the multiscreen over-the-top (OTT) video server software developed by Anevia (News - Alert), provider of video streaming and service infrastructure solutions for live TV and video on demand (VOD) over the Internet, was recently released by the company. The ViaMotion Origin server supports both functionalities by leveraging adaptive bitrate streaming technology which adjusts picture quality according to availability of the bandwidth. Furthermore, the technology supports continuing delivery of images.
Designed for use by telecom carriers, broadcast services providers, and for content owners, Anevia's ViaMotion 3.0 has been developed to include carrier-grade software products. ViaMotion 3.0 enables streaming to devices including PCs, tablets, mobile phones, set-top boxes, and connected-TVs. The software solution is also capable of delivering premium content as it extends support for digital rights management (DRM) and live video scrambling.
In addition to transcapsulation on the fly and storage optimization, ViaMotion comprises of stream adaptation profiles that extend single source support to multiple devices to increase number of streams in a cost-effective manner. ViaMotion Edge is an HTTP cache server which effectively improves the quality of experience as it appropriately allocates high demand and premium content to local audiences from the origin server. Video streams can be enhanced and prioritized by the ViaMotion Edge Server for a variety of applications such as for live television, CatchUp TV, and nPVR.
The ViaMotion Balancer, depending on the demand, can effectively balance loads into different cache servers over the network. While the ViaMotion Probe monitors the network for faults and loss of streams to ensure carrier-grade reliability. The ViaManager Monitor software likewise monitors and enhances management of ViaMotion components for the network.
Anevia's OTT video products have been designed to extend multiple formats support. These include support for Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), Adobe Flash HDS, WebM, H.264, Microsoft (News
- Alert) Smooth Streaming, as well as the MPEG DASH format.
