Emerson Network Power Unveils Avocent Universal Management Gateway Appliance

Emerson (News - Alert) Network Power, a provider of software, hardware and services to enhance the performance of data centers and critical infrastructure, announced the launch of the Avocent (News - Alert) Universal Management Gateway, which the company describes as “the first data center appliance that enables true real-time, integrated monitoring, access and control across IT and facilities systems in the data center.”

The Avocent Universal Management Gateway (News - Alert) appliance efficiently and intelligently stores, processes and translates the huge volumes of real-time data generated by IT systems. The Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance also provides remote access to and controls data center systems.

An integral part of   Emerson’s Trellis platform, Avocent Universal Management Gateway serves as the real-time data processing hardware link between the management software and the IT and facilities systems in the data center. In combination with the data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software, it delivers comprehensive real-time infrastructure management capabilities for the data center.

Delivering unprecedented insight and control to data center professionals, the Trellis platform with new capabilities will enable smarter, faster decisions that maximize data center availability, efficiency, and capacity, company officials said.

The solution delivers real-time data collection and monitoring by leveraging the company’s leading IT infrastructure management technologies such as KVM over IP, serial console, and service processor management and enables more effective and comprehensive data center infrastructure management.

“In addition to allowing customers to manage the embedded service processors from any brand of server in their datacenter without having to buy additional management software, this device also integrates capabilities delivered traditionally through multiple, disparate IT and facilities devices into a single 1U product with four times the functionality in 25 percent of the size enhancing data center resource and space utilization by as much as 50 percent,” said Steve Hassell, president of the Avocent business of Emerson Network Power (News - Alert), in a statement.

Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance will be available February 2012, an announcement from the company said.

Simultaneously, Avocent also announced the launch of Avocent DSView 4 Software, the first data center infrastructure management software to use the Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance to deliver 24/7 centralized data center management.

Avocent DSView 4 includes features like HyperV support, FIPS 140-2 support, and the addition of an open architecture database to allow administrators to design custom reports, and utilize third-party reporting systems.

Recently Emerson Network Power announced the launch of six-slot 40G Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) shelf, AXP640, which is designed for use in both carrier-grade telecom equipment and high-availability network gear outside the telecom environment.
