Raise a glass to toast 2011 and welcome in 2012, may it be prosperous and happy for us all, and may the Mayans be wrong.

Here are some news stories from the high def digital space you may have missed this past week.

TMC’s (News - Alert) Ashok Bindra wrote that aiming to further enhance 3D viewing experiences for entertainment enthusiasts and gain some market share, startup Stream TV Networks will be unwrapping its new generation 3D viewing technology at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas.

Labeled Ultra-D, the startup claims it will shift the way people today view media and 3D images. Stream TV’s Ultra-D needs no glasses to view 3D displays. “It surpasses all 3D viewing experience offered today,” according to CEO Mathu Rajan.

Stream TV Networks, producer of the eLocity brand of tablets launched first in 2010, said that Ultra-D technology is proprietary and leverages custom hardware, middleware techniques and software algorithms to create an unprecedented autostereoscopic or without glasses 3D imagery.

Also, Raju Shanbhag reported that, allowing users to distribute full high-definition media content to multiple displays situated in various locations, ATEN (News - Alert) International introduced VanCryst HDMI Media Distribution Solution.

The rack-mountable VS1804T/VS1808T is capable of transferring video resolutions of up to 1920x1200 (WUXGA), leveraging the HDMI specification, which offers deep colors and support for 3D content. Users are presented with a range of options to configure their video display for optimal quality with EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) technology built directly into the VS1804T/VS1808T. Additionally, Enabling system control through a high-end controller, the VS1804T/1808T offers bi-directional RS-232 serial interface.

Via Cat 5e cables, the VS1804T/VS1808T, offer a quick and efficient way to transfer high-definition multimedia content and HDCP data from an HDMI input source to four or eight displays.

TMC also had the news that Kyocera (News - Alert) Corporation, supplier of electronic components, telecommunications equipment, printers, copiers, solar power generating systems, semiconductor packages, cutting tools and industrial ceramics, entered in to a share transfer agreement with three investment funds operated by Japan Industrial Partners to acquire all shares of Optrex Corporation, a specialized manufacturer of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and related products.

This agreement comes in to effect from February 1, 2012 onwards, where Optrex will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kyocera.

For years, OPTREX Corporation has been offering R&D of LCD devices, organic light emitting displays (LED) and other optical-electronic display devices and selling related electronic components and materials.
