Chip major Qualcomm’s (News - Alert) networking and connectivity subsidiary Qualcomm Atheros and Broadcom announced their commitment to HomePlug technology by acknowledging that HomePlug AV is the best powerline solution for carrier-grade and consumer home networking applications.

As part of their long term commitment, the companies have validated the performance and reliability of their solutions when operating together. They now support a variety of demanding home networking applications, including simultaneous transmission of multiple broadband HD streams and IPTV content distribution throughout the home.

“With nearly 100 million HomePlug (News - Alert) devices deployed, we firmly believe that it is the only viable powerline technology,” said Dan Rabinovitsj, senior vice president and general manager, Networking Business Unit, Qualcomm Atheros (News - Alert), in a statement. ”We are committed to driving the continued rapid adoption of HomePlug technology for the next generation home networking of entertainment, smart energy and home automation applications.”

Both Qualcomm Aethros and Broadcom (News - Alert) jointly conducted performance testing between Qualcomm Atheros and Broadcom chipsets in recent months. Tests have proved that their HomePlug AV solutions offer high performance across real-world, multi-node home deployment cases and applications, according to a press release.

“Broadcom recognizes and supports customers' demand for multi-vendor supply of HomePlugAV technology,” said Dan Marotta, executive vice president and general manager, Broadband Communications Group, Broadcom. “Broadcom is committed to HomePlugAV with mature hardware and firmware products that meet the interoperability and performance needs of our customers.”

“As the world's largest supplier of broadband modems and shipping over 100 million modems per year, we will continue to deliver the benefits of high performance home networks built on deployed industry standards and to accelerate time-to-market for future products,” Marotta added.

Recently, Broadcom announced its latest StrataXGS high performance switch solution in order to assist customers to manage the exponential growth in wireless data traffic and carrier transition to 4G mobile networks.
