Gujarat Telelink Private Ltd. (GTPL), a Multi-Service Operator (MSO) and provider of broadband services in India, recently announced that it has started rolling out Cisco's (News
- Alert) high definition (HD) digital cable set top boxes across the Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA).
This move is expected to change the consumer entertainment market across the state. Subscribers across KMA will now be delivered with HD TV in addition to digital video recording, HD gaming and video on demand services as well as advanced range of Connected Home services.
In a release, Anirudh Sinh Jadeja, managing director at GTPL, said that, “We see tremendous potential in the eastern region. GTPL-KCBPL has been a very successful joint venture and we have attained a leadership position in Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA) in a short timeframe. Our partners and consumers have shown tremendous faith in us. With the introduction of HD TV, we hope to further enhance consumer entertainment and increase satisfaction.”
He added, “We are proud to be one of the first players to rollout digitalization in KMA, in line with the digitization drive by Government of India. And we believe, that with digitization, our partners and viewers stand to benefit from more opportunities, products and value.”
GTPL has already acquired KCBPL, a provider of cable services across West Bengal and is expecting to complete digitization of cable networks across this region. Both GTPL and Cisco will be collaborating over the digitization of cable networks in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, and West Bengal as well as across Jharkhand. This joint initiative is expected to drive the deployment of 8,000,000 advanced range of digital set-top boxes across these markets within the next 12 months.
