TMCnet High Definition Digital Week in Review

It was a busy week in the High Definition Digital sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.

CONNEXUS – which includes among its founders Spirent Communications, BroadHop (News - Alert), CommProve and Avvasi – has released a survey that shows there is growing interest among service providers, content providers and advertisers in monetizing OTT video traffic. Among those surveyed, 17 percent said that they have implemented application aware service plans, such as YouTube (News - Alert) streaming plans, while 30 percent said they are planning to deploy such plans in the next 12 months. Meanwhile, 40 percent said they have already partnered or plan to partner with content providers to enhance OTT service delivery.

In another story, Aspera, a provider of software technology for the transport of digital assets or data, will be demonstrating next-generation cloud storage access solutions and new file sharing, content distribution and automation frameworks at an upcoming conference. The Broadcast Video Expo 2012 will take place in London during Feb. 14 and 16.

It was also reported by TMCnet that Limelight Networks has been working with IMJ Corporation and Panasonic (News - Alert) Network Services to build a system though which television services are delivered using the Internet protocol suite over a packet-switched network, such as the Internet, instead of being delivered through a traditional terrestrial, satellite signal, or cable television format. The service called, IPTV (News - Alert), was used to stream live events for Tsutaya TV, a video delivery service for Japanese television, according to TMCnet’s Monica Gleberman. She said the first experiment with the service was done in December 2011.

In another story, John Ryan, a global retail marketing agency, has come up with a new digital signage monitoring application that helps banks identify and solve their network problems as soon as they arise. Unlike other screen monitoring systems, the new solution can simultaneously poll the status of components across the network, allowing the banks to spot and resolve the problems in the network without any delay. The solution can also identify and solve problems in system components such as onsite player PCs.

And Cheetah Technologies has released V-Factor Source (News - Alert) Monitor (SM) 150, which will be able to process and monitor three times more on the network than older versions. The new version will also help cable operators to analyze up to 12 HDTV channels at one time.
