Samsung will begin shipping its LED-6 and Plasma-6 series and higher Smart TVs in the U.S. starting this month.

“Our goal with this year’s models was to truly redefine what a TV can be while providing unprecedented choice to the consumer,” said Joe Stinziano, senior vice president, Home Entertainment, Samsung Electronics America. “We have delivered the incredible picture quality and beautiful design that consumers have come to expect from Samsung (News - Alert), as well as seamless connectivity, several new ways to control the TV and exclusive services.”

Featured highlights of the new lines of Smart TVs include: improved picture quality, featuring Micro Dimming and Real Black Pro; dual-core CPUs, allowing for quick app launching and task-switching; integrated camera and noise-canceling microphones; and voice and gesture control, as well as face recognition. AllShare Play will connect the device seamlessly with other devices as well as with 5 GB cloud storage, which customers will receive at no additional cost. Customers will operate the televisions using a wireless keyboard and a Smart Touch remote.

Voice and gesture control will be available with the LED ES7500, the LED ES8000 and the Plasma E8000. For example, a user can say the words, “web browser” and be automatically taken online, while a wave of the hand can control a mouse cursor. The Smart Touch remote has a built-in microphone for times when users want to use voice activation but are too far from the actual television microphone.

Samsung will also be offering signature services that are exclusive to Samsung Smart TVs. These include Family Story, which allows families of up to 20 members to share photos, memos, activity calendars and reminders over the phone, tablet, PC or TV. In addition, Fitness will allow users to connect via smartphone to a mobile Fitness app or to connect to a virtual scale via Wi-Fi. Customers will also be able to monitor their own exercise routines by using the TV’s built-in camera to create a virtual mirror. The final signature service, Kids, will offer kid-friendly infotainment and games that parents can easily control and monitor.

Samsung is also introducing Evolution beginning in 2013. Evolution kits will allow customers to add both hardware and software advances to their 2012 TVs without purchasing an entirely new system.

The new models released by Samsung this month will represent their fifth generation of Smart TVs.
