The number of consumers watching TV while on a mobile device or being online through portals, dedicated websites or mobile apps has increased. This is called as second-screen viewing. The second-screen viewing brings new opportunities for broadcast media organizations to enhance the overall viewing experience by facilitating users with additional program information through to voting and highly targeted advertising.
According to research firm The Diffusion Group, about 90 percent of tablet owners use their devices while watching TV. This has created incredible opportunities for content providers to drive engagement as well as revenue.
In an effort to power enhanced second-screen viewing experiences, Digitalsmiths – a provider of video content discovery and personalized viewing solutions – has collaborated with Audible Magic – the provider of automated content recognition (ACR) technology.
Under the terms of this agreement, Audible Magic’s (News - Alert) Live TViD and SmartSync services will be integrated into Digitalsmiths’ Seamless Discovery platform, in order to create a comprehensive solution for developing premium second-screen applications that synchronize with live as well as recorded content at the scene level.
“The partnership between Audible Magic and Digitalsmiths brings together two of the most important components needed to develop next-generation second-screen experiences: automated content recognition and deep, scene-level video data,” said Ben Weinberger (News - Alert), CEO of Digitalsmiths, in a statement.
Weinberger added, “Content providers building second-screen applications now have an integrated, seamless solution for incorporating both. And this will definitely lead to major new opportunities for TV content providers, broadcasters, advertisers, and others to drive viewer engagement and generate new revenue streams.”
Currently, Digitalsmiths’ Seamless Discovery platform will be integrated in to Live TViD and SmartSync services that leverage Audible Magic’s patented digital fingerprint ACR technology to identify and synchronize TV content even if it is live, never-before-seen material.
With the customer point of view, the new integrated solution will help to create numerous new possibilities for more engaging TV viewing experiences. With content providers point of time, advanced synchronization creates incredible new possibilities for enhanced viewing experiences that might increase engagement and revenue.
In other news, Digitalsmiths recently announced that service providers using the Seamless Discovery platform can now incorporate real-time social data into entertainment recommendations.
