The Hosted Exchange world was rocked quite a bit this week, thanks to the announcement of several major acquisitions.
While enterprises are continuously shifting to the cloud, hosted Exchange pioneer Intermedia (News - Alert) is also undergoing a major transformation. The leader in cloud-based business e-mail and hosted Exchange services will be acquired by private equity firm Oak Hill Capital Partners. Meanwhile, Phil Koen, former CEO of Savvis, Inc., will also join Intermedia as CEO and chairman as a result of the purchase.
The buy-out, for an undisclosed sum, means that Intermedia will continue to invest in high-quality, 24/7 support, “complimentary” cloud migration, innovative and efficient technology, and always-available operations. This acquisition is also a step toward new product introductions and other potential acquisitions.
In other acquisition news, independent social business software company Jive Software (News - Alert) has acquired OffiSync Corp., a provider of social solutions to the Microsoft (News - Alert) environment, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint. This acquisition is expected to combine Jive’s Social Business platform with OffiSync’s Microsoft integration products and is said to be Jive’s biggest acquisition yet.
Cloud-based e-mail security provider Mimecast has hit a home run, thanks to a new partnership with the Cleveland Indians. Mimecast has been pegged to provide its e-mail management solution to the Major League Baseball team to ensure that the Microsoft e-mail platform runs smoothly. Not only is the team off to a great start this season, but Mimecast’s solution will help save the team 120 hours of IT staff time per year. Play ball!
