Adobe Publishes Quantitative Mobile Consumer Study

Focusing on aspects such as mobile user preferences, characteristics, satisfaction levels and other experiential factors, Adobe published the results of its first quantitative mobile consumer study.

The study stated that accessing maps and directions is the number one mobile activity (81 percent). Sixty-six percent of respondents cited that they prefer the mobile Web for accessing content within the consumer products and shopping category, as well as the media and entertainment categories. With as much as 38 percent of respondents saying they had not purchased anything in the consumer products and shopping category from their devices in the last six months, the survey also demonstrated a huge opportunity for mobile commerce.

“Though mobile apps continue to be extremely popular, mobile users aren’t ignoring mobile websites,” said Brad Rencher, VP and general manager of the Omniture (News - Alert) Business Unit at Adobe, in a press release. “This and other findings make it clear that companies can significantly enhance their customers’ mobile experiences and better drive mobile e-commerce revenue. With Omniture optimization technology and Adobe Scene7’s rich media platform, Adobe is helping customers find the right mix of mobile website functionality”

Considering the number of users and time spent, the study also found media and entertainment to be the most highly-accessed mobile category. Also, with the fewest number of users citing that they have purchased consumer goods from their phones, consumer products and shopping was the least accessed, the survey stated. The media and entertainment, and consumer products and shopping drew the highest percentage of satisfied mobile users out of the four categories, according to the survey.

In April 2009, the company teamed up with Texas Instruments (News - Alert) to optimize Adobe; Flash; Player and Adobe AIR;, two key components of the Adobe Flash Platform, for the TI OMAP; mobile applications platform. TI's collaboration with Adobe will allow manufacturers and developers to fully leverage the benefits of the OMAP platform to reduce time to market while increasing performance and reducing power on devices.
