Organizations Need to Govern Mobile App Channel, Reveals Vordel Study

According to the survey, around 48 percent of respondents considered security as a top concern for connecting from mobile Cloud-based applications into the organization.

Various security challenges were cited by respondents. Some of them included the question of how to protect a mobile application itself from reverse-engineering, how to protect the Web Services used by the mobile application and how to deter users from installing malicious mobile applications placed in app markets by attackers.

26 percent of respondents also found integration complexities to be a major challenge. This was expected as programming for mobile apps uses such lightweight protocols as REST and JSON, whilst the enterprise application development environment is characterized by enterprise applications such as SAP (News - Alert), Oracle and Microsoft.

“The survey results demonstrate that organizations need to govern the mobile app channel as it increasingly becomes an important channel to customers, partners and employees,” said Hugh Carroll, VP of Marketing at Vordel, in a press release.

“Clearly mastering the security issue is a key concern for organizations and a challenge to adoption. Vordel is delivering API Gateway (News - Alert) technology today to respond to this need, bridging mobile applications into the enterprise, via the Cloud.”

Currently, 53 percent of organizations are deploying mobile applications to customers with 47 percent deploying applications to employees and 24 percent deploying to partners.

In related news, Vordel has appointed Thomas MacIsaac, who comes from Oracle (News - Alert), as regional sales manager. Based in New York, he will be responsible for the company's sales in the Mid-Atlantic Region and South to Florida.
