Fiberlink Communications Corporation, a provider of cloud-based Mobility as a Service “MaaS” solutions, announced that its MaaS360 mobile services now provides supports for laptops, netbooks and other mobile devices with the help of Qualcomm’s (News - Alert)‘Gobi’ connectivity technology.

According to Fiberlink, the MaaS360 is a mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) platform that facilitates mobile workers to connect quickly and easily from anywhere in the world to the Internet as well as to the applications they require.

The MaaS360 platform is ideal for networking groups and IT, who can leverage the platform and its components to - perform identity management and authentication services; deploy, monitor and manage security and connectivity applications on laptops and PCs worldwide; protect mobile devices as well as the data stored from loss, theft, data leakage, hackers, and viruses; and more.

With the advanced integration of Qualcomm Gobi API, Fiberlink is no able to offer a hardware and carrier agnostic connection management solution. With the Gobi integrated MaaS360 Mobile Service, mobile workers are now able to connect to a wide range of wireless and wired networks with Gobi embedded modules in laptops, netbooks, distributed PCs, mobile devices and Gobi USB modems.

The Gobi technology is an embedded mobile wireless solution that takes advantage of various high-speed wireless networking technologies that have been implemented across the globe. With this, users will be able to connect to the Internet beyond WiFi (News - Alert) hot spots.

Qualcomm has also announced future Gobi support for e-readers, gaming devices and M2M commercial applications.

“Our platform delivers advanced controls for the Gobi chipset allowing security compliance and cost controls regardless of the Mobile Device or Carrier,” said Chris Isbrecht, director of product management, mobile service. “This is a significant step forward for reporting on any and all carrier connections from a mobile device.”

The MaaS360 Management Center provides enterprise IT managers and finance groups with greater control over security compliance and telecom/carrier cost controls.
