RingCube Technologies, Inc., offers cutting edge solutions that can increase worker productivity and mobility by bringing virtualization to the desktop.
With today's changing workforce - and many employees working remotely - there are pressing needs for flexible, secure and manageable options for remote access to an enterprise.
RingCube's solution is vDesk. It enables enterprise workers access to their complete desktop from any Windows PC. It also gives users access to a virtual personal workspace which they can access anytime, anywhere in the world,
RingCube CEO Pete Foley told TMCnet in a recent interview.
Earlier this year, RingCube unveiled vDesk version 3.0, which has new management functionality. It delivers global scalability, faster MobileSync, support for Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows 7, and hardware-assisted isolation control with Intel vPro technology.
On average, users can expect their MobileSync operations to take about 60 percent less time compared to previous vDesk versions, the company says.
In addition, with vDesk, the users' entire desktop - including data, applications and settings - can be delivered over the network, checked out to a laptop or contained in a USB drive. Users' desktops are no longer confined to a home campus desktop PC.
When users go onto vDesk, it transforms a Windows PC into their familiar and personalized workspace where they can access files, applications, settings and the entire desktop, just as if they were on their own PC.
Users can run their vDesk workspace at the office or on unmanaged PCs - at home, or at a client site.
vDesk increases user productivity, lowers desktop management costs, and eliminates the performance and resource overhead associated with legacy virtualization technology. It also eliminates data center build out.
RingCube also meets needs of the mobile employees.
"You can use this on any device," Foley said.
The solution from RingCube also allows for business continuity and rapid recovery after hardware failures or extreme weather.
vDesk provides, too, a managed and isolated workspace for creating a work-at-home call center. When using the vDesk workspace, confidential data and network traffic are completely isolated from the user's unmanaged PC.
Increasingly, enterprises are exploring the work-at-home delivery model, such as in contact centers. A recent study by the Gartner (News - Alert) Group reports that 41 percent of enterprise contact centers plan on employing 'work at home' agents in the near future.
This provides a viable alternative to the current trend of off-shoring agents.
Unmanaged workers - such as contractors, consultants, temporary workers, and outsourced workers - typically use their own PCs. When their project is complete, their computing environment needs to be de-provisioned and user data secured.
When using their vDesk workspace, confidential data and network traffic are completely isolated from the user's unmanaged PC. Once an unmanaged worker's project has concluded administrators can revoke the workspace instantly, preventing further access to corporate applications and data.
Unmanaged desktops may also introduce security risks. These PCs may contain viruses or malware and often fail to adhere to corporate standards. There is also a need for enterprises to insure control over unmanaged desktops to prevent data leakage.
vDesk provides security enforcement capabilities that IT staff can enable to check the integrity of an unmanaged desktop prior to allowing a vDesk workspace to run. vDesk also features encryption and isolation policies for data leakage prevention by disabling access to external devices, printers, network attached drives, and the host PC from within the vDesk workspace.
