Riverbed Technology is an IT performance company. Recently, the company declared that Gartner (News - Alert) has recognized Riverbed in its June 2010 report, "Market Share Analysis: Application Acceleration Equipment, Worldwide, 1Q10". In the report, based on the revenue, Riverbed (News - Alert) maintained its top position in the Advanced Platform WOC (WAN optimization controller) category. In the same report, based on revenue, Riverbed is again named as the topmost company in the WOC category for Q1 of 2010.

By exploiting Riverbed WAN optimization solution, the enterprises and government organizations are able to enhance remote and mobile employee output, facilitate private clouds, and offer enterprise-wide network and application visibility. Also, it helps to accelerate the performance of applications between remote offices, private data centers and mobile workers. With the help of Riverbed Steelhead products, the companies can combine IT, and enhance backup and replication processes. This greatly helps to guarantee integrity of data and improvement in staff productivity and collaboration.

In a release Eric Wolford, who is the senior vice president of marketing and business development at Riverbed said that "Consolidation of IT resources are a major initiative for global enterprises looking to reduce IT costs. Whether our customers are moving data to cloud environments or eliminating servers at branch offices, they can realize significant cost savings."

By means of Riverbed Services Platform (RSP), Riverbed facilitates supplementary IT consolidation opportunities by supporting branch office consolidation. With the RSP, the customers are enabled to make a branch office box (BOB) that can operate to a maximum of five additional services or applications virtually in a protected partition on the Steelhead appliance. By making use of this approach, the customers can deploy a customized library of local services in all of their branch offices. In order to run the applications, there is no need to install and maintain full-blown servers. Riverbed offers a variety of almost 14 qualified solutions on the RSP. These solutions include Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, and solutions from McAfee, Inc., Websense, Inc., Check Point Software Technologies, Qumu, Infoblox Inc., and OPNET Technologies (News - Alert), Inc.

Riverbed’s Steelhead 7050 economically handles large-scale datacenter-to-datacenter replication, accelerates applications across various locations and users in an enterprise, and permits the organizations to set up large private cloud infrastructures.
