Philippines Based Globe Telecom Launches Email-On-The-Go

Globe Telecom, a mobile telecom operator in the Philippines, has launched E-mail-on-the-Go to more than 20 million customers.

Officials with Globe Telecom (News - Alert) said that EGO, based on UnoMobi’s MyInboxNow application, offers consumers the most advanced and easiest to use clientless push email service available on the market today.

UnoMobi is a division of Multiplied Media Corporation offering emerging mobile messaging applications and value-added solutions.

According to company officials, EGO is an email to SMS service that is available nationwide to all of Globe Telecom’s prepaid and post-paid subscribers on all mobile handset models.

Company officials said that the EGO push email service allows users to read, compose, reply and forward email messages using their own SMS-capable mobile phones.

The new EGO service will be implemented in two stages. First, the SMS user interface will enable users to enter simple SMS commands to retrieve, send and forward their email. Second, users will be able to utilize a browser interface, granting them access to their email, as well as attachments (Office, PDF, photo, audio, and video files) and the ability to manage their accounts by clicking on embedded URL links.

Several other enhanced features will be available in forthcoming releases, said company officials.

“Today’s mobile phones offer so many ways of communicating while on the move. The Email-on-the-Go service provides a convenient and cost effective way for our customers to stay connected and get their email, without using a smartphone,” said Rina Azcuna-Siongco, VAS Head of Globe Telecom’s Product and Service Delivery Group, in a statement.

Siongco said that millions of customers will now have the ability to read and reply to their emails using their mobile at a reasonable cost.

“Our Email-on-the-Go service uses a robust platform and has the flexibility to add-in services for a more fulfilling mobile experience,” said Siongco.

Damon Miller, VP, business development, Multiplied Media said that mobile email is no longer a luxury that is limited to the business user.

Miller said that Email-on-the-Go will bring push email to the consumer mass market and generate additional value added service revenue for Globe Telecom.

“We are excited to be partnered with Globe Telecom for this opportunity in the Philippines,” he added.

Multiplied Media says that it develops and operates mobile applications that enhance the consumers’ ability to connect with the people and businesses most important to them.
