Axial Exchange, a provider of clinical data sharing for the healthcare networks has collaborated with
MuleSoft, the Web Middleware Company, to launch a new open source healthcare interoperability platform called Axial 360.
Axial 360 is built on MuleSoft's Mule ESB, the open source enterprise service bus. The platform is not only the interface engine that powers Axial solutions, but it is also intended as an open platform for the broader ecosystem of health IT vendors and in-house developers.
'Axial Exchange is helping to fundamentally change the healthcare industry by lowering the costs and difficulties of integrating and securely sharing medical information,' Chris Purpura, vice president of corporate and business development at MuleSoft said.
'The Axial 360 platform represents an ideal partnership of technology from the leading open source integration platform, combined with deep industry experience from the Axial Exchange team,' Purpura added.
The company also clarified that this new platform is made available as a free open source download for use by the broader healthcare community. As stated, the Axial 360 health care interface engine and connector library is hosted as a Google (

'We're at the beginning of a generation-long retooling of the world's health IT infrastructure, and low cost, standards-based interoperability is the key to the success of this effort,' Matt Mattox, chief technology officer of Axial Exchange said.
'This is an ideal job for open source middleware. A strong track record in mission-critical environments and its active developer community makes MuleSoft an ideal partner for Axial in bringing open source interoperability to healthcare,' Mattox added.
Axial Exchange has also added two noted executives to its Advisory Board: Karen Evans, former Administrator of E-Government and Information Technology of the Federal Office of Management and Budget, and Leslie Alexandre, former CEO of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.
