A.M. Best Briefing: U.S. Health -- Preparing for the Exchange Marketplace
OLDWICK, N.J. --(Business Wire)--
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act's (PPACA) most critical
year is approaching, and the majority of health insurers have been
making the necessary preparations, according to a new briefing from A.M.
Best Co. Exchanges will present a new marketplace for insurers, with
increasing competition, greater transparency and new product offerings.
On the consumer side, exchanges will allow individuals and employer
groups to comparison shop more easily for health insurance and better
evaluate and select a policy based on price, benefit level and quality.
Health insurers have been enhancing their distribution channels in
preparation for these new dynamics, including bolstering their existing
direct maketing strategies that have mainly involved telemarketing,
direct mail and consumer advertising through various media channels.
Recognizing the importance of direct-to-consumer marketing, health
insurers are correspondingly undertaking initiatives to bolster brand
recognition and marketing capabilities. The employer coverage mandate
requires employers with 50 or more employees to offer health coverage or
be subject to a penalty.
