Nu Skin Japan Tries Avayas IP Telephony

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Avaya announced this week that personal care and nutrition products provider Nu Skin Japan opted to implant an Avaya (News - Alert) IP telephony system at its Nagoya branch, the company's first shopping style store. The project is the pilot trial for the company in IP telephony.

Avaya's IP telephony system would be able to help the Nagoya branch communicate efficiently with customers and employees in its head office in Tokyo.

Nu Skin Japan is a subsidiary of Nu Skin Enterprises located in Provo, Utah, which was founded in 1984.

Avaya worked with Itochu Techno-Science Corporation (CTC), the company's business partner, in order to provide better quality of voice, easier management, and telephony features similar to the digital PBX system that Nu Skin used in other office locations.

“In the future, when the company-wide IP implementation happens, it will enable us to use our communication assets more efficiently,” said Yoshinori Harada, Nu Skin Japan's voice network specialist, in a statement.

Harada elaborated: “For example, we can be reachable in whatever office you’re in, just logging in to the telephone with your password. We’ll learn a lot from the IP telephony implementation and daily usage in Nagoya, and we want to continue to be successful in replacing traditional voice systems to IP in other locations.”

Today's news follows Avaya's announcement on Wednesday about its partnership with GE's Access Distribution. Wanting to broaden its base of North American resellers and provide data communications capabilities to enterprise customers, Avaya had announced it signed a distribution agreement with GE's Access Distribution to resell the Avaya product portfolio, as well as the Avaya Global Services, including maintenance and installation work.

GE's Access Distribution joins the more than 2,500 Avaya resellers in North America. Access Distribution has over 600 additional reseller customers experienced in complex IT products, solutions and services, from network security and storage to enterprise applications software.
