Some Amusing and Interesting Push-Media Statistics from eMotive Communications

By Richard Grigonis, Executive Editor, IP Communications Group

Founded by the original management of Moviso (acquired by InfoSpace (News - Alert)) who were responsible for creating and leading the mobile ringtone market, and headquarted in the entertainment capital of the world, Los Angeles, California, eMotive Communications (www.emotive.com) is an innovative entertainment-focused company that provides real-time interactive multimedia products such as “RingJam” to communication networks worldwide.

RingJam is a ‘Push Ringer’ product that introduces active social media networking by deploying a ring-forward tone for fast IP networks. Instead of making an ordinary, hum-drum voice call over Skype (News - Alert), you can now call your friends and family with videos and music? RingJam lets you play a song, video or sound on your friends’ computer to announce your call, instead of those pedestrian beeps or tones. RingJam has thousands of songs, artists and videos to choose from with new titles added every week. There’s a high probability that you can call with your favorite hit songs or videos, be they artists like Fergie, The Rolling Stones, Rihanna, 50 Cent, U2, and Gwen Stefani. (Hey, how about my old favorite, The Doodletown Pipers? — okay, stop laughing.) You can even create your own custom tone. Shop the store or check out our weekly free tracks!

In any case, the folks at eMotive were kind enough to share with Yours Truly some statistics about push-media applications that they gathered over Valentine’s Day:

• Increase in call volumes Valentine’s Week 272% from prior week data
• Increase in commercial push ringers (2/13, 14, 15) to 48% of call volumes
• Usually user-generated content dominates at approximately 50% of call volumes
• Commercial push ringers over same period week prior represented 11% of call volumes and 30% week following
• Week following Valentine’s Day call volumes dropped 75%
• 52% of the titles were purchased in the US. The Netherlands, New Zealand, Great Brittan and Canada are also strong users.
